About Gordon The Multi-Assistance Center at Morgan's Wonderland

The commission approved revised plans for Hartman's development Aug. 22, and the minutes show Kossl recused himself during the vote. “There's already been a plan in place and approved,” he said, noting construction started about six months ago. Hartman denies the allegation and has not paid the fine, saying the cave was filled when he bought the land and that a homeowners' association paid for the cleanup. Last summer, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality cited Hartman after 174.2 cubic yards of construction and demolition waste, including paint, was found dumped inside one cave.

Inside, the main level boasts stained walnut cabinetry, Cambria countertops, white oak flooring, a slatted wood ceiling detail over the island with rock crystal lighting, & a linear fireplace. An Online Resource Directory on existing services available for a wide range of disabilities.

Building Dreams

Manufactured Homes, or those built to the CSA Standard Z240, are homes built in both sectional and single sectional types. Sectional homes are constructed on large metal frames and delivered to the site where they are blocked and leveled on concrete blocks from the frame to support the home. They generally sit approximately three feet above ground and would be skirted to the ground with wood or vinyl.

Over the next 22 years, Gordon grew his company into the largest locally-owned homebuilding and land-development enterprise in San Antonio. In recognition of his successes in business, he has earned membership in both the San Antonio Business Hall of Fame and the Texas Business Hall of Fame. Gordon was also inducted into the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame in 2018 for bringing professional soccer to San Antonio. Two years later, global automotive giant Toyota, the leader in mobility solutions for drivers with disabilities, opted to become the presenting sponsor of Morgan’s Wonderland. In 2005, Hartman sold his construction business and created The Gordon Hartman Family Foundation so he could help children and adults with special needs. During a family vacation his daughter wanted to play with kids in a hotel swimming pool, but when she tried to interact with them socially, they inexplicably left the area.

A carefree way to choose the style you want and the floor plan which best fits your needs.

In August 2018, Morgan's Inspiration Island was named one of "The World's Greatest Places" by Time magazine. In 2010, Morgan’s Wonderland opened with NBA legend David Robinson and actress Eva Longoria as guests. Gordon Hartman no longer builds homes, he sold his company in 2005 to McMillin Homes.

On June 17, 2017, Gordon debuted Morgan’s Inspiration Island, the world’s first UltraAccessible™, fully-inclusive splash park. “I don't ignore neighborhood groups,” said Hartman, who founded the San Antonio Scorpions soccer team and Morgan's Wonderland, an amusement park for special needs children. Another significant expansion completed in 2020 and officially opened in 2021– Morgan’s Wonderland Sports – is an Ultra-Accessible™, fully-inclusive sports complex focused on fitness, competition and fun for athletes of all abilities.

The new $45 million Multi-Assistance Center at Morgan’s Wonderland, or The MAC, constitutes a bold new approach to caregiving for those with special needs. It offers a unique, one-stop care model that helps solve medical, therapeutic and social-determinants-of-health issues in one location – a three-story, 165,000-square-foot headquarters not far from Morgan’s Wonderland. The MAC houses more than 30 community-based organizations, and specially-educated Navigators guide clients, or MAC Members, to service providers, track progress and schedule follow-ups. Gordon anticipates that this model of providing services in a coordinated manner will establish a new standard, not only in San Antonio but across the nation as well as internationally. The MAC’s grand opening on Oct. 2, 2022, included special appearances by award-winning actor Joe Mantegna, also an advocate for those with special needs, as well as Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg.

In 2019, Gordon was named recipient of The Governor’s Trophy, highest honor for lifetime achievement in support of Texans with disabilities. Furthermore, the Association of Fundraising Professionals of San Antonio and South Texas honored him as Outstanding Philanthropist in conjunction with the 2022 observance of National Philanthropy Day. Since 2005, Gordon and Maggie Hartman and the Gordon Hartman Family Foundation have committed more than $86 million for the betterment of people with special needs. This is just the beginning for the Hartmans since they have pledged to donate 95 percent of their financial resources during their lifetimes or via their estate per the Giving Pledge, founded by philanthropists Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffet. Gordon Hartman became the 210th member of the Giving Pledge, a commitment by individuals worldwide to give more than 50 percent of their wealth to philanthropy or charitable causes.

Native San Antonian Gordon Hartman is a philanthropist and former homebuilder who at the age of 15 started his own landscaping business while attending a local seminary. By age 19, he had saved enough to begin his homebuilding business, and by age 23, he had started a land development company. Founded in 1983, Gordon Hartman Homes built housing for low- to moderate-income families.

These include accessibility improvements at City Hall, Bexar County Courthouse and San Antonio International Airport. Just names of subdivision would be a great starting point for me as I am looking for a pre-owned GH home....love their floorplans and look of houses. I know that McMillin has bought Gordan Hartman homes but I am looking for a pre-owned Gordon Hartman home on the North/NE Side of San Antonio because I love the floorplans and exterior architecture of the GH homes.... Gordon Hartman is now a special needs philanthropist and started a local non-profit organization. John was one of the reporters in a joint investigation by the Chronicle and the Express-News that revealed how 700 people - most of them children - had been sexually abused by pastors, employees and volunteers in Southern Baptist churches.

The newspapers' series, Abuse of Faith, sparked nationwide calls for reform. He noted there would be buffers of undeveloped land around the caves to protect any endangered species and water flowing into the aquifer. A survey is what the city of San Antonio asks developers to complete if they are building in an area likely to have endangered species. The caves on Hartman's land feed directly into the aquifer and could be home to other endangered species, they say. Magazine named the splash park to its first annual list of World’s Greatest Places.

On June 17, 2017, Gordon debuted Morgan’s Inspiration Island, the world’s first Ultra-Accessible™, fully-inclusive splash park. The land, which is off Evans Road, has five caves and is covered with a mixture of mesquite, open grasslands and oaks. For two decades, developers have put forth various plans for it, including golf courses and large-lot luxury homes. Ultra-Accessible™ refers to removing both physical and economic barriers that confront children and adults with special needs. This means that those with and without special needs can come together in a fully-inclusive environment for a better understanding of one another. Because of his generosity, energy and vision, Gordon has earned extensive local, regional and national recognition including an honorary doctor of social work from San Antonio’s Our Lady of the Lake University.

But because this project inherited the development rights given before those limits were in place, it can proceed with its proposed 47 percent impervious cover, SAWS says. Normally, a project on the outskirts of the city over the Edwards recharge zone only could cover 15 percent of a property with roofs or roads, which limits the polluted runoff going into the aquifer. Dan Kossl, who also works at Bitterblue, serves as a planning commissioner for San Antonio.
